The beauty of the night sky is one of the things about living in Sedona that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves. Picking a night to head out on the trails with snacks, a sweater, and a telescope or even binoculars is a truly amazing way to spend an evening close to your Sedona home. Plan a Guided Tour or Premium Access Close to Sedona Homes
Another awesome resource is Lowell Observatory. Located in nearby Flagstaff, it’s only 30 miles away. For people living in Sedona who are interested in astronomy, this is an excellent day trip. The observatory is currently open for guided tours and premium access only. Guided tours last anywhere from one to two hours. The cost for adults starts at $49 and $25 for children. Tours are limited to 10 people and have both day and night options, as well as special family packages. An experienced observatory educator will lead your tour and explain important astronomy concepts. All tour participants will also be able to ask questions.
Premium access allows you to customize your own evening of stargazing and astronomy lessons. Up to 10 people who either live together or are traveling together can participate. Choose to use the 24-inch Clark Refractor telescope or the 24-inch Dyer Telescope. Either way, you get a personalized tour of 75 minutes with a highly trained observatory educator. These tours cost a flat fee of $525.
There’s also exciting news at the observatory. Plans for the Astronomy Discovery Center have been unveiled, with a planned opening date in 2023. The center will include lots of open-ended and self-directed exhibits, which have been shown to be the best way for people to absorb scientific education.
